The latest economic data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows a massive jump in business investment in Western Australia.

The State Final Demand figures to the three months ending June this year show that business investment in WA increased by 7.3 per cent. This took the annual increase in business investment in Western Australia to a staggering 23.3 per cent, the highest in the nation.

Premier Alan Carpenter said these figures showed that Western Australia continued to be the powerhouse of the national economy.

“These figures highlight the confidence that companies and organisations have in this State,” Mr Carpenter said.

“The investment that is being made in the domestic Western Australian economy is helping deliver more jobs and greater economic security for Western Australians.

“The growing confidence in our State, and how it is being managed, is underlined by the fact that business investment in WA has jumped by a whopping 196 per cent in just the last five years.

“No other State comes near it.”

The national increase in business investment in the same period was 88 per cent, less than half the Western Australian rate.

The State Final Demand figures relate to growth in the domestic economy.

The same figures for June show that the Western Australian domestic economy continued to grow at an impressive 3.2 per cent during the quarter and 9.1 per cent annually. In the same period, the national economy recorded a 1.8 per cent quarterly increase and an annual growth rate of 5.6 per cent.
