Regional Events Scheme

Eventscorp is calling for applications from event organisers for round two of the 2008-09 Regional Events Scheme (RES) for events held in the first half of 2009. Eventscorp Executive Director David van Ooran said that the State Government had already invested over $200,000 for 13 popular local festivals and sporting events across regional Western Australia in round one of the 2008-09 RES. “The State Government committed $1 million over four years for regional events in recognition of their enormous significance to local communities,” Mr van Oooran said. “There are two levels of support available through the RES – second tier events can be granted up to $20,000 support and first tier events that have the potential to become iconic for regional Western Australia can be granted up to $50,000. Each regional event application will be assessed on its ability to attract visitors, generate media attention and raise the profile of an area,” Mr van Ooran said. In round one, a total of 28 applications requesting about $706,000 were received. Two inaugural events, Mountain Designs Great Southern Adventure Race and Sounds Outback, plus Broome’s iconic Shinju Matsuri festival, will now receive funding for the first time.

Applications for funding close at 5pm on August 15 and are available at http://regionalevents.westernaustralia.com.
