I've always preferred to buy local, good quality, Western Australian produced food in season because it's, cheaper but mainly because Western Australian food is fresher and TASTIER. Having lived on a tropical island for 10 years, I love my tropical food but choose to buy it when I go to the tropics. The worst Western Australian drought on record means tens of thousands of lambs are being euthenased now. The price of one of my favourite meats is low right now but next month when supply of sheep to Perth butchers dries up the price is set to soar.

Recently I bought Granny Smith apples in Perth @ 79c per kilogram. They were DELICIOUS because they are winter food in season. The Western Australian Department of Primary Production used to have a good in season food wall chart which I'd like to scan here for promotion of WA primary producers if I can get a hold of a copy.

Western Australian: farmers, other primary producers such as fishermen cooperatives, food wholesalers, food retailers, and food marketers, are invited to register and post messages in this Perth fresh food forum and or in the Perth Calendar. It's absolutely free to post messages along with pictures and hyper links. I would appreciate a link back when your site is next updated. If there is enough interest I'll add a special fresh food calendar showing postings of primary producer marketers of what food is fresh in Perth and when.

Here's the first free promo: I bought the cheap apples (from a HUGE wooden crate) at the Balcatta Growers Market, Perth in July. Today I'm buying a few legs of lamb and mutton at about $6 per kilogram but will be catching fish or buying fish in Perth next month when sheep meat gets expensive.
