Western Australia’s rugby fans will celebrate 10 years of Test match rugby in Perth when the Qantas Wallabies play the Springboks at Subiaco Oval on Saturday, July 19. The Western Australian Government Tourism Minister said the match was part of the four-year agreement between the State Government and the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) to stage Test matches in Perth. “Western Australians are dedicated and passionate about their rugby and this support has grown tremendously since the first international Test in Perth in 1998, between Australia and South Africa”

“The deal with the ARU is expected to generate approximately $10million for the local economy over four years. The Australian African Business Council support links betwee South African business people in Perth, visiting South African business people to Perth and South African businesses with businesses in Perth. “Each Test is expected to reach an international television audience of 130 million potential households across 85 countries, generating invaluable exposure for our State in our key tourism markets.”

South Africa are the reigning World Cup champions after they beat England at the 2007 World Cup in Paris.
“This is a significant sporting event for Western Australia, the tourism industry and rugby fans in general,” the Minister said.
