New Luxury Hotel Perth

A new 500-room hotel to be built on the Burswood peninsula will help address the Perth's severe hotel bed shortage and result in a major boost to tourism and the Western Australian economy, Premier Colin Barnett said today.

Mr Barnett said the new six-star "Crown Towers" Perth hotel was expected to draw an additional 79,000 extra visitors to Perth each year, and generate an extra $60million in tourism expenditure in the State annually.

The development is set to create 700 jobs during construction and an additional 500 ongoing jobs in the hotel itself once operational.

“This will go a long way to alleviating the chronic hotel room shortage in Perth that has been negatively affecting Perth’s tourism industry and the overall WA economy,” the Premier said.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames said "Burswood Entertainment Complex" had agreed to pay the State Government $60million to acquire the land for the development.

“Perth currently leads all Australian capitals on occupancy, average room rates and revenue per available room (RevPAR), however only 223 net new rooms have been opened in the city since 2006, none of which involved a new hotel opening,” Dr Hames said.

“Crown Towers is a welcome asset for tourism in Western Austrlia and will particularly assist in catering to the emerging Chinese and other Asian markets.

“This new hotel development will be of great benefit not just for visitors, but also residents with new jobs for workers, and fresh entertainment options for West Australians.”

The WA Government has agreed not to oppose an application for 500 additional gaming machines and 130 additional gaming tables, including new private gaming salons. The increase is subject to the approval of the Gaming and Wagering Commission of Western Australia. This extra product will be phased in over a five-year period.
