Premier Alan Carpenter has officially opened the new $8.6million Caladenia Primary School in Bushy Grove, Canning Vale, Perth.

Mr Carpenter said the new school, built to ease the pressure of growing student numbers at nearby schools, was designed to cater for more than 450 students from Kindergarten to Year Seven.

“Caladenia Primary School reflects the vision of the whole community and is already developing a reputation for providing the highest quality education,” Mr Carpenter said.

“The multicultural base from which it draws its students has created a cosmopolitan environment with a strong, inclusive ethos epitomised by the school song ‘Circle of Friends’.

“The new facilities, together with highly professional staff and a supportive community, will create a vibrant and successful learning environment for future generations.”

The school, which opened in January this year, was designed by T&Z Architects in consultation with the local community and built by Geo. A. Esslemont and Son.

The new school includes:
13 general learning areas;
three early childhood education classrooms;
a library resource centre;
a staffroom;
an administration area;
a covered assembly area including a canteen and music room;
a room for art/craft and science; and
hard courts and cricket nets.
It also features the state-of-the-art technology including desktop PCs, notebook computers with wireless access to networks and high speed Internet.

The Premier said he was using the State’s strong economy to provide better education facilities for all young Western Australians.
