Shanks Pony is seeking the services of a bass player.

We are a rowdy folk rock band, playing a range of cover, traditional and original tunes. We take influences from a number of different genres such as country and blues in producing our ‘sound’. If you think along the lines of the Pogues, Weddings Parties Anything, Steve Earle and Paul Kelly and you’ll have some idea of where we’re at.

Our roster of instruments includes mandolin, accordion, acoustic guitars, slide guitar, banjo, bass, drums, keyboards, harmonica, percussion, washboard and even didgeridoo. Two us share the lead vocals and all members contribute harmonies. We're all 30+, quite experienced, house trained and are a very supportive group (we often socialise with spouses and kids).

We are currently finalizing a CD and have regular gigs. We generally only have 1 per week, as we all have day jobs and families, however it is expected that this may vary in the future. We do have plans to play at Festivals next year, and to expand into fully original gigs, time permitting. The bass player we recruit will have the opportunity to be involved in the decision making and planning.

Ideally, someone with experience will meet our needs. Given the diverse range of material we play, we’re not looking for someone who knows every song inside out, but rather someone who is able to adapt and play a few different styles. We’re happy to devote some time and resources getting the right person up to speed.

Hey my name's Pete (More commonly "OX") and I am interested in your need for a bassist.

Primarily I play Bass, though I have played Drums in 8 or 9 bands. I am happy to do backing vocals but you may need to shoot the screeching cat that seems to follow me around!

I have ample, quality gear (Warrick, Spector, Yamaha, Eden & Mesa) and am in serious need of a musical outlet.

I am 33 and currently in a band that seems to be uninterested in "having a go". There's a lot there but behind the scenes it seems to be "idle". You can hear us at www.illicitrevolt.com where you can get an idea of my bass playing from the previews (don't panic I'm not here to try and sell you the album). This is a Different style to what your talking, but it's what was available at the time. I've done the long hours in the Studio, and loved every minute of it!

As blues and smooth groove is my preferred type of music, I am looking for some new turf, so here I am!

You can contact me any time on 0457530681.

For your information, I live in Bullsbrook. Its typical to have to travel from here so it doesn't worry me where I have to travel to for rehearsals/gigs, I also have my own fully equipped rehearsal studio, so if a place for rehearsal is a problem I have the free solution! I work for Rio Tinto so have steady income, and can travel if needed (and happy too). I am also reliable and punctual.

I have made music my life, and I am serious about music, I also have a young supporting family. . . .Would love to hear from you guys!!

Pete
