Regional Development Minister announced that Western Australia would host the 2008 Regional Development Council meeting in Broome on July 30. The Regional Development Council (RDC) is the Ministerial Council responsible for regional development issues in Australia. It comprises Federal, State and Territory Ministers responsible for regional development and a representative from the Australian Local Government Association. “I am pleased that Western Australia has been chosen to host such a prestigious meeting which will provide an excellent opportunity to discuss important local and interstate regional issues,” the minister said. “It also provides an opportunity for Western Australia to showcase the unique attractions that Broome and the Kimberley region have to offer.” The Regional Development Council serves to facilitate more effective co-operation across government in order to achieve sustainable economic, social and environmental outcomes for regional Australians. Regional development is a priority for all three spheres of government. Following the RDC meeting, a communique of the outcomes will be released by the Australian government Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Anthony Albanese.
