Interested in helping to save the Planet? The Wetlands Research Association (WRA) has various volunteer positions including, office and desktop work, library cataloguing, non-hazardous laboratory work, and wetland monitoring.

WRA:
is a non-profit executive committee comprising professional personnel with expertise in wetland ecology, hydrology, soils, and vegetation with a focus on related community groups rather than general membership,

works and liaises with, and conducts educatational workshops with community groups involved in the management and conservation of wetlands in Western Australia,

accords with the Agenda of Science for Environment and Development into the 21st Century (ASCEND 21)," that it is the responsibility of science to provide independent explanations of its findings to individuals, organizations and governments", and more specifically, recommendations 34-43 relating to Research and Monitoring of the Earth System.

Recommendation 36 states:
There is a need for research directed towards improved understanding at the local and regional scales, of the hydrologic cycle, including its interaction with soil and vegetation, and its response to changing land use and pollution, environmental degradation, and rising industrial, agricultural and domestic demands…..:

In keeping with the objectives of ASCEND 21, WRA has been and is working with community groups to establish environmental monitoring programs of local wetlands, and to promote both the use of sound scientific data in the environmental evaluation of development proposals, and the evaluation of policy options in environment and development.
