Crowded? Options

So I am about find a job in a city to get closer to the ocean and I have decided on either The gold coast or Perth.

The only setback to living on the Gold Coast is the crowds. They say there are 60,000 surfers in SE QLD alone. And the good breaks attract far too many surfers on a busy day, is Perty comparable to this. And can anyone make a comparison between the two?

I hope to live and work inner city and still get a few waves in the morings before work starts. I hear the North east is the best for surf spots?
