Campaign Day 1: 6th October 2009

An open letter to the People of Perth and beyond

My Name is “Average Joe” and I, like many others, am tired of seeing mediocrity and complacency in Perth Western Australia and the world in general. It was an article on perthnow today www.news.com.au/perthnow/story/0,21598,26173180-5005401,00.html about Luke Pomersbach that got me mad. In my opinion this sort of thing should not be allowed to happen. No lesson has been learned here.

So I have decided to start a campaign. My Campaign is NOT to get Luke off the road again. That is just one small example of what is wrong with our society.

The goal of my campaign is to change the way we think and operate in our society. We, as a group, need to stand up ask the questions that matter and demand answers. We cannot accept a system that allows people behave badly and get away with it.

So here it is, Average Joes 3 simple Rules to create a better society and (hopefully) change the world

Rule #1 – Demand and Give Respect
• Demand the level of respect you deserve. Your opinion is as valid as anyone elses but be prepared to listen others and to explore the idea that you might be wrong
• Do not Judge people by the colour of their skin, the clothes they wear, their age or where they come from. Judge people by the one thing that matters, judge them based on what they do and how they behave.
Rule #2 – Take responsibility for your actions
• Everyone Screws up once in a while. When you do, don’t try to blame anyone else. Take responsibility for your actions, learn from your mistakes and make sure they don’t happen again.
• Serve your punishment not matter how harsh it seems at the time.
Rule #3 – Don’t be a Dickhead
• Have you ever noticed that most “accidents” happen when you are being a dickhead. Think about it, if you play by the rules and don’t act the fool then generally things go according to plan. It’s not a perfect rule but it’s a damn good start.

I have opened a facebook and twitter account and I intend to use them to share my opinions and thoughts. I encourage everyone to join with me and start thinking about what we can do to Make A Difference. I don’t want to see people shouting abuse at each other. My goal is to create a forum where people can share opinions and hopefully we can start to come up with some innovative answers to the problems that exist in society. There are better answers than more security cameras, more laws and more law enforcement.

Perth’s not a bad place to live in fact I love it here, but it can always be better. So let’s all get Mad together and see if we really can change the world.
